TIBA stands for Techno is Black Again! – a reminder that the roots of techno come from the African American community in Detroit and should never be forgotten. The collective, founded in 2022, brings together BIPOC and FLINTA DJs and creatives, curating festivals that combine music, workshops, and exhibitions in safe and empowering spaces.
TIBA stands for Techno is Black Again!
It is not meant to be rebellious, but rather to remind people that the roots of this sound come from the African American community in Detroit, Michigan – roots that must never be forgotten.
The TIBA collective is made up of several BIPOC and FLINTA DJs and creatives. Founded in 2022, they have been hosting their own events in Cologne ever since, including the second edition of their festival, to which we were once again warmly invited.
In addition to music, the festival also featured numerous workshops, exhibitions, and a variety of food courts. There were both outdoor and indoor areas, with exhibitions by different BIPOC and FLINTA artists presenting their work in a safe and supportive space. Filming was allowed outside until 10 pm, after which a strict no-phone policy applied inside.
Our playtime was from 4 to 6 pm. We performed after the Cologne DJ duo LosDos and before Catu Diosis.
In curating the festival, the TIBA collective created a well-balanced mix of established local artists, emerging talents, and international guests, all harmonizing beautifully and supporting one another.
