The Afro Electronic Music Summit returns with a focused Lab Day around Afro Electronic Music culture, artist development, booking, positioning, community building and exchange.This is a space for DJs, producers, artists, organizers and everyone interested in the future of underground and diasporic electronic music.

The Summit includes workshops, Q&A moments and networking in a relaxed setting.

Important Information:

Some workshops take place at the same time. Please choose your ticket carefully.Workshop spots are intentionally limited to keep the sessions focused, personal and useful for everyone.

If a session is fully booked, you can still come by for networking, Open Q&A and the Summit atmosphere, but we can only guarantee workshop access for registered participants.

How to Register for the Workshops

Please choose the workshop session you want to attend.

You can register for one workshop at 19:00 and one workshop at 19:55.

If you want to join two workshops, please book one ticket for a 19:00 workshop and one ticket for a 19:55 workshop.

Please do not book two workshops that happen at the same time.

All workshop RSVPs are free but limited.

A valid RSVP helps us plan the rooms and keep the sessions focused, personal and useful for everyone.

AEM Summit and Club Rave are Separate Events

This is a separate event from the Barulho Club Rave.

A Summit registration does not include access to the Club Rave.

A Club Rave ticket does not include access to the Summit.

The Barulho AEM Summit Afterrave starts at 22h and requires a separate ticket.

For the first time ever, DJ Firmeza and DJ Nigga Fox go back-to-back at Open Ground on Saturday 3 October. This night gets to the heart of Lisbon's thriving Afro-Portuguese dance music scene with two masters of batida  the kuduro-born club sound forged in the city's Quinta do Mocho estate. DJ Nigga Fox is the avant-garde producer whose debut record O Meu Estilo put Príncipe on the international map, (and he carries a restless, high-voltage sound) and whose DJ sets are celebrated as psychedelic literature for the dancefloor. DJ Firmeza is a master of a unique, percussive-heavy, trance-inducing approach to the art of mixing. Expect raw, unrelenting batida and a stack of unreleased weapons.

Both artists have a home at Príncipe Discos one of Europe’s most exciting record labels. The label's co-founder José Moura says batida blew his mind the first time he heard it: "We couldn't pinpoint it. We thought, this is really something we've never heard before. It's not techno, it's not house, it's nothing that we know about.” Originating in Luanda, Angola, it evolved into a vibrant underground movement in the suburbs of Lisbon, Portugal, driven by 140 BPM rhythms blending traditional Angolan and Cape Verdean styles (like kuduro, tarraxinha, funaná, and semba) with modern techno and house production.

Creative Process & Sonic Storytelling in Ableton Live

Workshop with Piccell (Barulho World)

In this artist-led workshop, Piccell offers an insight into his creative process, sharing the workflows and techniques behind his productions in Ableton Live. Through live demonstrations, he will explore his approach to composition, arrangement and sound design, showing how ideas evolve into finished tracks.

The session focuses on developing a personal creative practice through experimentation, intuition and sonic storytelling, while offering practical tools that participants can apply to their own music-making.

We will also have a couple of Ableton Move there for participants to try.
